The 10-month-long battle for life came to an end, finally on Friday.
Aeronautical engineering student M. Abhilash, who suffered multiple fractures in a road accident on his birthday on February 4 at Petbasheerabad, died at the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences after developing pneumonia.
His classmate and close friend Ahmed Abdul Lateef, who was riding the bike, died on the day of the accident when an oncoming rammed into their bike. Both were bright students in their batch and making promising research in miniature aircraft designing.
Hailing from a poor family in Tandur of Ranga Reddy district, Abhilash had excellent academic record.
He dreamt of carrying out extensive research in aircraft designing.
Abhilash won laurels for his innovations in scientific designs at several exhibitions held across the country. He and Lateef studied the subject exhaustively and designed a miniature aircraft that runs on a battery and can be controlled with a remote gadget.
The accident confined him to hospital bed for months. Unable to bear the huge hospital expenses -Rs. 20,000 a day initially- Abhilash's father sold off everything he had.
With media reports highlighting the young scientist's plight, many came forward donating money for his treatment.
For few months, Abhilash was treated at Global Hospital at Bangalore and recently shifted to its Hyderabad branch. He was admitted to the NIMS after developing complications and died on Friday night.
